Searching for accredited On Line Universities?
Let’s say you are interested in going to college or going back to college. You don’t really have the time to do college visits, or your present obligations cannot allow you to take time out of your life to go to school during the day. You’re stuck in a job you don’t like whether it be due to the responsibilities themselves, or lack of advancement, or lack of opportunity based on your education or qualifications.
If you were in this situation 15 years ago, you’d probably enroll in either a correspondence course or a distance learning course. It may not require you to attend a class online, but it would still be time consuming. Nowadays with the introduction of the on line university, you can achieve that goal of earning your degree or certificate from the comfort of your home.
What are on line universities? What types of degrees can I earn?
On Line Universities are basically a campus-based college or university that also happens to offer courses on the web. Most on line universities require students to register as they would with a regular college course, and their course materials may still require books, but students can view lectures, read other articles of interest, send and receive assignments all through the on line university student portal. All that is required is a working computer with a decent internet connection. As long as you have that, you can earn anywhere from an associate’s to a PhD depending on the school and program of your choice. There are also certificate programs that can be earned through an on line university.
Why attend on line universities? Why not just go to the class on-campus?
Sure, you could attend the college course on-campus, but what if the college of your choice is in Massachusetts, and you’re in New Jersey? Sure it may not be that far of a drive, but if you’re a full-time employed adult, there is no way that type of long-distance commute is possible or rational. The glory of on line university programs is that you can virtually attend class, participate in bulletin board discussions with your classmates, and even communicate with your professor or instructor. Sometimes classes offer chat sessions where you can communicate “live” with the other members of your class. And since you can stay at home and still participate in the class, you can even “attend” class in an undershirt and sweatpants! Also, since not everyone has a 9-5 job, those who work night or swing shifts can access the exact same course work as everyone else when they are up and about, so everyone is on the same page, no matter when you work.
Are on line universities legitimate?
Of course…for the most part! Courses taken at on line universities are accredited about 99% of the time nationally or regionally. Since the courses are still under the umbrella of a reputable and accredited college or university, the on line university is too! Your degree from an on line university is worth just as much as if you enrolled in their on-campus degree programs. However, if the institution that offers your courses of interest is not accredited by a valid national or regional accrediting institution, the odds of your time and money being spent well are slim to none.
